Soft Machines: A Monumental Love Letter to Brighton’s Seafront

Artists Ivan and Mark, from the charity Making It Out, discuss their collaborative public sculpture project, Soft Machines, commissioned for the 60th Brighton Festival. Built from locally sourced heather and agricultural materials, these “monstrous” yet embodied forms are being constructed directly on Hove Promenade, in a project that bridges the gap between high art and social practice, involving participants from the Brighton-based charity who are moving on from prison, homelessness, and addiction.
