Man dressed as a tree

This week Sharon Caple visited Stanmer Park for the May Day Festival. As the photograph illustrates, it was a beautiful sunny day, the perfect time to get dressed up as a tree. The festival is a celebration of Summer and the forthcoming warmer days, when nature bursts back into life.TheGreen Man (from folklore) is followed in a customary May Day procession through the woods as he wakes up the plants for summer, with the help of musicians carrying drums and tambourines. The event culminated with May Pole dancing.
