A stitch in time

Any artwork that celebrates the stunning scenery along the south coast gets the thumbs up at Krog Towers. And we’re particularly in awe of the multi-talented The-Downs-to-Brighton-and-Sea-copyqueen of embroidered embellishment – Ellie Hipkin. She’s a textile artist who paints predominantly one-off pieces directly onto silk then enhances them with freehand machine embroidery.

Alongside Ellie’s paintings she also creates one-off painted fashion pieces such as tops, dresses and clutch bags. She has also recently diversified into homewares with cushions. Each piece is beautifully hand painted, and she takes much of her inspiration from her life here in Brighton and the natural world around her, with the sea playing a major role. You can find Ellie’s work locally in Sydney Street’s iO Gallery.
