Gabriel

Guernsey, 1943. A household of women – mother, daughter, daughter-in-law and housekeeper – each find ways to survive the war. Until the arrival of a mysterious man, with no memory of who he is. They name him Gabriel – but is he angel, demon, or just a man?

The atmosphere of the war and the further unsettledness caused by the arrival of Gabriel are skilfully captured in both script and acting. The small cast and one-setting play has a huge impact, and the performance was powerful and moving. An examination on what it means to be human, to be desperate, and to survive.
