Marcel Lucont

They say you should never work with children and animals – technology and audiences are up there, too. Alexis Dubus’ new show with his alter ego Marcel Lucont goes in on both, and has problems. A Powerpoint slideshow fails a few times, and Lucont is forced to stall when some music does, too. An awkward answer from an audience member throws everybody off.

That’s not to say he isn’t funny, he’s very funny. And when the show works, it works very well indeed. But some of the gimmicks (and technical problems) affect his high-status character, and the best parts are still Lucont’s straight up, droll stand up – making you wonder if the gimmicks were necessary at all.
