1 Local psychedelic pop band Summer Pudding headline a generous lineup including Amazing Rex Speedway, The Fortune Tellers, DJ Gareth Stevens (Mr Bongo Record Club), DJ Kidda and Jack Thunder in a benefit gig raising money for www.prevent-suicide.org.uk.

2 Rick Wakeman created his popular Piano Portraits album after a striking reaction to his performance of Bowie’s Life On Mars on BBC Radio 2. He will be playing tracks he performed on originally, and other pieces with strong melodies such as Eleanor Rigby, Swan Lake and Clair de Lune.

3 I love good puppetry shows because they’re often thoughtful and innovatively presented, and Dark Matter at the Rialto this Thursday looks similarly contemplative. Delving into the nature of the brain, Dark Matter stars Algi, an elder astrophysicist with dementia. Also, there’s a Q&A and a touch tour afterwards for any puppet enthusiasts.

4 The world’s biggest festival of hip hop dance theatre, Breakin’ Convention is coming to the Dome. The Sadler’s Wells project will include performances from Canadian duo Tentacle Tribe and Soweto Skeleton Movers, and also Korean drumming backing up the Just Dance group.

Comedy with Victoria Nangle
5 Mixing magic with comedy that sets out to be equally offensive to all, Jerry Sadowitz’s late night weekend show combines his integrity to himself in his comedy with a performance that showcases his incredible close-up magic talents. Not for the faint-hearted or likely-to-be-offended, strap in and prepare to have your socks knocked off.

6 Feeding a slight persecution complex, but mostly making the most of his wry and brutally honest observational comedy, ‘Some People v Reginald D Hunter’ marks the award-winning comedian’s latest visit to Brighton with a brand new show. Punches will not be pulled, and epic stories will have their pay offs (if past performances are anything to go by). Plus there’s support from the eminently talented Glen Wool.

7 This summer Brighton Museum launches Be Bold, a series of collaborative events and exhibitions in partnership with Brighton & Hove’s LGBTQ communities. First to see is the acclaimed Museum of Transology – a bold and brave collection of artefacts and photographic portraiture that began with donations from Brighton’s vibrant trans community. From 20 July.
8 Here’s a top reason to look forward to the Brighton Digital Festival starting 5 September. Royal College of Art graduate Dominic Hawgood is developing a new digital artwork that will include animation, moving images, CGI, light installation, and sculpture, to create a realistic walkthrough virtual world.
