Albion boss lends his support to Prostate Cancer UK campaign

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton has joined forces with other top flight football managers to deliver team talks as part of Prostate Cancer UK’s campaign ‘Man of Men’.

Statistics show that prostate cancer kills one man every 45 minutes. This is the equivalent of two men dying during the length of a football match.

Albion boss Hughton has joined forces with other managers including Mark Hughes (Stoke City), Craig Shakespeare (Leicester City) and Slaven Bilic (West Ham United). The premier league bosses have teamed up with their counterparts from the English Football League (EFL) – a long-term Charity Partner of the EFL, League Manager’s Association and Prostate Cancer UK. More than 25 managers across the football landscape have pledged their support to the campaign.

They have joined together to condemn the disease and to deliver life-saving messages as part of a high-profile campaign to tackle the most common cancer in men.

As well as delivering the messages, football managers will be wearing Prostate Cancer UK’s ‘Man of Men’ pin badge whilst on the touchline during the 2017/18 season as the leading men’s charity works to deliver the vital message.

Speaking about the disease, Chris Hughton said: “Prostate cancer is an opposition like no other; just seeing (the) stats…shows why we all have to take action to change this. The disease does not discriminate. 1 in 8 men will suffer from prostate cancer in the UK…that stat is 1 in 4 if you are a black man.

“By wearing a Prostate Cancer UK ‘Man of Men’ badge – like me – or taking part in one of the charity’s wealth of fundraising events you can change the game for men.”
