Armed Officers to increase patrols in Brighton after latest terror attack

Following the latest terror attack in London  – at Parson Green tube station last Friday (15 September), Sussex police have announced they are increasing  patrols across Sussex.

Sussex Police said: “In light of the increased threat level announced by the Prime Minister, we have bolstered our armed policing capability by extending our armed officers’ shifts and have enhanced high visibility policing to provide reassurance for local communities.”

Head of Operations Command Assistant Chief Constable Steve Barry said: “The independent Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre raised the national threat level to ‘critical’.

“This threat level applies to the whole of the UK. Our top priority for Surrey and Sussex is to ensure the safety of the public and in response to the increased national threat level.

“We continue to review security plans for upcoming public events…to ensure there are appropriate measures in place to keep the public safe.”

Residents can expect to see officers, as well as armed officers at stations and other crowded places.

Sussex Police have urged the public to remain vigilant at all times.

The national advice is to remain alert and report anything suspicious, by calling the Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321 or in an emergency the public should always call 999.
