Stage: Playing The Game
Raunchy fun at the Brighton Little Theatre from Alan Ayckbourn’s modern classic GamePlan
In their own words, the Brighton Little Theatre is a ‘very active group’, putting on at least 10 performances a year. Founded in 1940, the latest offering from this stalwart local theatre group comes in the form of Alan Ayckbourn’s GamePlan, a darkly comic look at
modern day living.
Directed by Felicity Clements, GamePlan is the story of 16-year-old Sorrel Saxon(Rosa Caines), as she lives with Lynette(Carrie Lambe), her recently separated mother and struggles to cope with the possibility of leaving her comfortable life in a plush Docklands apartment.
Unable to accept giving up on the home she loves, and her mother’s poorly paid new job, Sorrel realises the only way she can maintain her life is to take matters into her own hands.
Thinking out of the box, she enlists schoolfriend Kelly (Liz Barton) to help her embark on a rather shady business venture that can only end badly.
Following the example of her entrepreneur father, Sorrel utilises the internet to put her plan into action, but things don’t quite go as smoothly as she’d hoped.
Her jinks land both her and her mother in a spot of bother, and
a very tight corner to manoeuvre out of.
Maybe not one to take the kids to see, GamePlan promises to be a scintillating adventure into the depths of 21st century despair.
