This week: Brighton musician Conor Maynard

“The gig at Audio [21 April] was my first gig in Brighton since I have had a song in the charts. It was cool to come back home and see all my friends. I started my career recording covers in my room and putting them up on YouTube. I recorded a cover of ‘Beautiful Monster’ and it was so successful it reached over one million views. Ne-Yo saw it, he contacted me and signed me to his record label!”

Brighton-born and bred 19-year-old Conor Maynard suddenly rose to great success in 2012 when he was nominated and won MTV’s Brand New for 2012 award. His debut single ‘Can’t Say No’, was released in April and reached number 2 in the UK charts. Conor is now signed to Parlophone and his upcoming debut album, Contrast, is expected to hit stores in the UK on 30 July. Billed as ‘a playful and fun song’, the ‘Can’t Say No’ music video has generated over five million views.
