Polyester Fiesta

St Michael’s Church was somehow an appropriate setting for Lorraine Bowen’s comedy cabaret/fashion show that in essence celebrates polyester in all its garish glory. A veteran of the Brighton cabaret scene there are few quite like her; her hilarious, seemingly off-the-cuff comedy, superb comedy songs (Julie Christie, The Crumble Song et al), and hilarious routines were aided by geek scientist Alisdair Sheard, polyester wearing catwalk models/dancers Sam Nixon and Clare Fowler and Pam, the wardrobe assistant. With many costume changes we get to see Bowen’s extensive and impressive wardrobe including a customised silver number with washing machine hosepipes for arms, whilst Bowen played her Casio (including some chords played exclusively by her breasts…) and kept the fun levels high throughout this fast-paced show. For those entering into the spirit, there was a polyester catwalk competition at the end. Mad? Yes. Entertaining? Definitely.
