Jim White and Stanton
The bordello feel of the venue’s refit was well suited to the swampy, country blues of Belgian openers Stanton. Jim joined them for a few numbers and proved he was a better frontman than percussionist. With Stanton’s double bass and desert-sound guitar backing the headliner, we were treated to songs from his new, mellower album and old favourites including a lovely ‘Bluebird’. A childlike ‘K.I.M.Y.A.’ was a fun surprise (Moldy Peaches go country) and always an amusing, erudite orator; the monologues, including tales of trailer park oddballs from the making of his acclaimed documentary, were as rewarding as the songs.
