Efterklang And Northern Sinfonia
The adventurous Danish trio started this project by collecting sounds in the Arctic and presented their findings in startling arrangements for voice and orchestra by Missy Mazzoli and Karsten Fundal. Further aided by old friend Peter Broderick and Banshees’ drummer Budgie, this brave undertaking produced an epic performance. Casper Clausen’s voice was spot-on throughout, effortlessly switching between rich baritone and a falsetto that was a perfect foil for the icy strings. An African choral sound was resonant in ‘Told To Be Fine’ while ‘Living Layer’, with woodwind birdsong, was punctuated with blasts of brass before a celestial ending. An amazing endeavour.
