Georgie Fame

Still the epitome of cool and looking in better shape than his battered Hammond, the former Clive Powell, aided by sons Tristran and James, played a set that spanned his fifty year career. The Lancastrian Mose Allison’s reedy voice was as smooth as ever as he ran through hits such as ‘Yeah Yeah’ and ‘Getaway’, and his excellent jazz phrasing shone through on an inventively-extended ‘Georgia On My Mind’. With each song introduced with a detailed, personal background story, we received a history of British R’n’B from this pivotal player. Allison’s tender ‘Was’ closed the set before finishing with a rousing Percy Mayfield encore.
