Fish Pie
Fish Pie was a surreal play about three undersea residents of one building: Cuthbert the lonely fish; Ludwig the Dali-esque, ‘Tuna’ Prize-winning, performance artist prawn; and Myrtle, an animal activist sea cucumber. The building link didn’t really work – it seemed more like three unrelated vignettes than one play – and the story of Cuthbert was a bit dull, but the other two were hilarious. It was performed through a clever mix of puppets and pre-recorded videos. Cuthbert looked oddly more like ET than a fish and it wasn’t clear to begin with what Myrtle was meant to be, but the puppets were brilliantly made, particularly Ludwig and the art critics Clarence and Milton, who were like a shellfish Statler and Waldorf. Funny and very silly.
