An unconnected trio of gigs by punk rock royalty was rounded off by one of the few class of ’76 originals still remaining true to the back-to-basics DIY ethos. Charlie Harper may be a year shy of 70 but he proved that age is irrelevant with a career-spanning set interspersed with friendly banter with the hard-core fans at the front. The first half highlighted their more recent, heavier output while the instantly recognisable intros of ‘Tomorrow’s Girls’ and ‘Warhead’ were a clarion call for the mohican’d moshers. The teenage stage invasion for ‘CID’ was a fitting end to a great night.
