Brighton Dome’s Studio Theatre showcased an evening of hip-hop and rap, with a contemporary brass covers band filling the gap between acts. Hosted by Source magazine, the headline act of the night was Brighton-based rap outfit Rum Committee, whose confident delivery and polished rap beats anchored by a soulful crooner made for the most exciting performance of the night. Second on the bill were MOK, whose well constructed commercial rap songs were beefed up by some heavy riffs whilst their frontman’s Professor Green-esque rhymes led the way. At times, all of the acts showed some real talent and understanding of the genre, but they often lacked the consistency needed to put them ahead of the pack.
