Police promise prompt return of Brighton taxi marshals

The taxi marshal service at two busy ranks in Brighton will return soon, according to Sussex Police.

The force said: “The initiative has been interrupted while partners in the city agree ongoing funding.”

The marshals are employed to keep order at the ranks in East Street and West Street in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday mornings.

They are not expected to be working tonight (Saturday 1 March) while funding is under discussion.

Chief Inspector Katy Woolford said: “Taxi marshalling plays a key part in identifying vulnerable people and preventing crime at night in the city.

“Brighton and Hove police are committed to paying their contribution to this valuable service which is funded by a number of partners in the city.

“It is unfortunate that this initiative will be interrupted for a short time while partners arrange ongoing funding.

“A partnership meeting is due to take place imminently so that this service is quickly restored.”
