Candlelit Classics: Rutter Requiem – Patricia Rozario (soprano), Peter Farrant (conductor)

This great value-for-money show saw community choirs take on some of Rutter’s ‘Anthems’ to start off, which were nice, sweet little pieces if lacking a little bite. The requiem was far more powerful however, with some beautiful swimming cello parts and a transcendent talent in Patricia Rozario, a special guest performer. Her solo parts were stunning, reaching majestic heights and filling the huge space magnificently. The contemporary numbers in the middle section didn’t quite fit the classical mood of the evening, but the quality of the reqiuem and spirited singing from the choir ensured it was an enjoyable evening.
