Standby For Tape Back-Up

Ross Sutherland has created a unique piece of synchronisation-multimedia-theatre, utilising an old VHS tape that he and his grandad used to record on to tell the story of his life. Sutherland would rap/recite poetry in very raw, revealing detail in sync with footage from a variety of footage, often revolving around the death and life of his grandad. Inspired moments included using an old bank advert to reflect the repetitive, grinding nature of work and a hilarious section on The Crystal Maze and how the brain doesn’t take things in properly when under pressure. The final message was a little muddled, but as an exercise in technical and lyrical skill the evening was a joyous success.
