Old rock bands never die, they simply divide and go on their separate tours. One might be forgiven a note of cynicism regarding the odds on original guitarist and drummer Michael Wilton and Scott Rockenfield’s being able to replace Geoff Tate, one of the iconic voices of the progressive metal scene, but Todd la Torre rises to the challenge with aplomb. Tight, focused and energetic, the band build up to a storming version of Queen of the Reich: the rock vocalist’s equivalent to the Queen of the Night’s aria. But the show ends abruptly, and doesn’t quite satisfy.
