Mark Lanegan Band + Duke Garwood

A sold out Concorde 2 hosted a night of grunge-infused blues with the charismatic Screaming Trees frontman on somewhat disappointing form. An atmospheric build-up was provided by the gently affecting Duke Garwood trio, showing all the quality of his collaborative record with the headliner, albeit his own work was perhaps a little too meandering live. This feeling continued into Mark Lanegan’s set, the prolific gruffian choosing an oddly languid selection of songs from his vast back catalogue that veered dangerously close to blandness. Only the magnificent stomp of ‘The Gravedigger’s Song’ and ‘Death Trip To Tulsa’ thankfully saved the night from mediocrity.
