The Great Gatsby

This play with music is an attempt to stage the famous novel by F Scott Fitzgerald, which only partly succeeds. Trying to recreate the kaleidoscopic glamour and excess of the roaring twenties with only seven cast members and a minimalist stage isn’t easy. At times it felt rather like an episode of ‘Whose Line is it Anyway?’ with the cast almost frenetic in their efforts to make something out of very little. They get an ‘A’ for effort. Fortunately, things become more focused in the second half as we get to the meat of the story, to good dramatic effect.
