Worthing Symphony Orchestra – Homage To The Great Masters

Worthing’s best kept secret of the WSO and the Assembly Hall acoustics came together once more for an eclectic mix of movements, with additional support from piano virtuoso’s Yuki Negishi & Louise-Andree Baril. The conventional pieces (Schubert’s symphony no.8, Saint-Saens ‘Carnival Of The Animals’ and Prokiev’s symphony no.1) enveloped the audience like a sonic duvet, warming in places, jovial and light in others. A stark contrast to the afternoon’s other piece; Poulenc ‘Concerto for two pianos’. An abstract tapestry in musical form, if Jackson Pollock were to have written music it would sound like this. Angular, jarring yet not altogether unpleasant.
