King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
The Aussie psychedelic seven piece played their largest Brighton venue having released their eighth album since their February show. The set mind-melded prog, acid rock and garage to make a sonic experience that deserved to be heard live. From a throbbing ‘Gamma Knife’ to a super-heavy ‘Cellophane’ this was a shirts off, beer flying, crowdsurfing rock ‘n’ roll explosion. With singer Stu Mackenzie doubling on flute and singing-chanting the lyrics in step with the guitar licks and chugging harmonica, this was prog that really rocked. With no phoney encore, what must have been the year’s sweatiest gig ended on a natural high.
