Oakley sell former City College building
Acting on behalf of City College Brighton & Hove, Oakley Commercial are delighted to confirm the sale of the freehold interest of the above mentioned property to Aligned Property.
This elegant Victorian building was constructed in approximately 1880 as a school and has been used for educational purposes ever since.
As part of City College’s rationalisation plans the property was deemed to be surplus to requirement and will now be subject to a sympathetic and high quality conversion into residential units (subject to planning consent being granted).
Oakley undertook a comprehensive marketing campaign on behalf of City College, which resulted in over 40 inspections of the property, numerous offers being received at the tender date and the property being sold in a figure at an excess of the guide price.
A sympathetic and high quality conversion into residential units

The level of interest in this building from both occupiers and developers underlines the strong economy we are seeing across the city”.
Jon Rollings, Chief Operating Office of City College Brighton and Hove said; “The successful sale of this building is an important part of our property strategy, allowing us to consolidate our educational provision onto our main sites and releasing funds for continuing investment in improving our facilities”.
Yvette Taylor, Director of Aligned Properties said:
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to redevelop such an iconic building within the city. Working alongside the great team at Oakley and Yelo Architects, our aim is to create a unique scheme of residential units in keeping with the history of the building”.
