Garthy: November auction
It’s the last auction of the year which I hold jointly with Mr Postcard (Robert Jeeves of Step Back In Time in Queens Road) and the interest has been incredible. We have 254 lots to offer for sale on Tuesday 22 November at Aldrington Church Hall, Glebe Villas, Hove, with viewing from 6.30pm and the actual sale starting at 8pm.
We have now offered over 1,000 lots this year of anything and everything to do with Brighton, Hove and Sussex from books, prints, photos and posters to postcards, ephemera and brass plaques.
The prices range from £2 to £500 and we have a lot of fun doing it and only charge 10 per cent commission for sellers and buyers.
Come along or email me at brightonandhovestuff@gmail.com for a catalogue.
The postcards are fun joke cards
Anyway, briefly onto a couple of bits from the sale. Firstly a great view of life on the seafront in the 1950s with serious buskers playing for their money on Kings Road.
A great shot of social history… but you wouldn’t stand as close to the road these days, or in fact try and get your music heard. Too dangerous and too noisy with the traffic. Guide for this one is £8.
The next couple of postcards are completely bananas and fun advertising or joke cards for Cricket at Sussex circa 1910, and I’m really not sure of the thought process behind the idea but – hey – each to their own! Guide on this lot is £12.
