Hove fire suspect appears in court

A man who was arrested at the scene of a fire in Hove yesterday (Monday 26 September) has been charged with arson and brought before a court.

Matthew Woolf, 31, of Goldstone Villas, Hove, was arrested in the street at about 4.30pm as an East Sussex Fire and Rescue crew tackled the blaze, also in Goldstone Villas.

The fire caused damage to a basement flat in a block run by the YMCA on the corner of Goldstone Villas and Clarendon Villas and close to the junction with Blatchington Road.

Sussex Police said that Woolf was due to appear before the bench at Brighton Magistrates’ Court this morning (Tuesday 27 September).
