Stage: The Night Before Christmas

Big Theatre’s saucy seasonal offering

Do you fancy an adult fairy tale this December? Well, how about this?: An elf is apprehended in a warehouse on Christmas Eve. He begs for his freedom by telling tales of faulty sledges, white magic powder that provides that ‘Christmas feeling’ and Santa’s headquarters in Hartlepool.

The Night Before Christmas is a fast paced, funny adult tale of commercialism and disappointment of the present day Christmas. It’s a grown-up comedy with sexual references and strong language, all wrapped up in a warming message of the true spirit of Christmas.

Big Theatre Productions (formerly known as Big Pants Theatre Productions) are back with the same ethos, bringing good, affordable theatre to the community and raising money for their chosen charities. These are Mind Out, a mental health advocacy for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, and Survivors Network, whose work involves supporting and helping victims of sexual abuse and assault.

Big Theatre Productions have brought several plays to The Lectern, including their highly successful Berkoff season during the Brighton Festival Fringe 2011. They are a relatively new theatre company put together by local actors, directors and designers from all walks of life. Entering their second year of working together, Big Theatre Productions hope that The Night Before Christmas gets this next exciting chapter off with a bang.

The Night Before Christmas, The Lectern Pub, 5 Pelham Terrace, Lewes Road, Brighton, Thursday 15 December–Sunday 18 December. www.wegottickets.com
