Grand designs: The hottest trends in home interiors for 2012 can all be found at Mister Smith Interiors

2011 brought us 150 years of William Morris fabrics and a fantastic new embroidered linen and silk collection that took his original designs and re-coloured and sized them for today’s market. It was a huge hit and proves that good design is timeless and loved by young and old.

Last year’s colours were greys, blues and soft pastel. Zoffany’s new paint colours highlighted this and companies like Zinc enhanced the message with tonal textural fabrics.

Some companies just stuck brilliantly to what they do best like Colefax & Fowler who yet again set the precedent in design for beautiful embroidered silks and soft stripes… exquisite!

On the carpet side, Crucial Trading are still leading the way with carpets like the Audrey Sunrise (see cover). Jacaranda continues to amaze with their hand-tufted carpets bringing out a velvet pile carpet so deep and luxurious you would ditch the bed and sleep on the floor.

Roger Oates, with their stylish striped runners, continues to develop their range. In 2012 this will include the Gold Dust range of venetian runners which has a luxurious gold thread running through it.

2012 will see a continuation of well priced fabrics from companies like Villa Nova and Casamance; this French company has a fantastic range of fabrics around £30 a metre.

The wallpaper market continues to grow and we will see the increased use of geometric designs from companies such as Cole & Son, Designers Guild, and Osborne & Littles amazing hologram wallpapers that will remind you of the stickers you had as a kid.
Digital printing is becoming increasingly popular with its ability to speed up design time, in doing so reducing the price you pay. Mr Perswall has a brilliant range of digitally printed wall panels that can be sized to your wall at a very reasonable cost; their kids range is the best we’ve seen in years.

Colours will continue with the greys and pastels but royal blue is making a sneaky come back and could be the signature colour of the next few years.

Lots of smaller designers are coming through like Dupenny, House of Hackney & Georgia Horton and their latest collections can all be seen at Mister Smith Interiors in the centre of Brighton.
