Celebrity homes: Going dutch?
The once splendid Astoria Theatre is at last about to see some change. Whilst not purely a theatre as such, (could a city of this size sustain a venue on this scale?) it has now been granted planning permission to be converted for multiple use, one of which will be
a public space on the lower floor suitable for eating, drinking and entertainment. Phil Graves of Graves Jenkins is now seeking interest in the new scheme after a long and complex application.
The Theatre has had a chequered history, although fully equipped as a lyric theatre ideal for the staging of large scale shows, it was more often than not used as a cinema, music hall and latterly bingo.
Currently owned by Brighton’s own Secret Millionaire Mike Holland, we think that the new public space might make a nice home for Jools Holland who could sit in a corner and tinkle the ivories while we all indulge in yet another large latte.
