Photographer Diana Frangi captures the faces and places that define our city. This week: songwriter Paul Steel

“I wanted to make a kind of stream of consciousness pop record that could get really far-out and also accessible and enjoyable to listen to. The track ‘Why X5’ is probably the most rock/metal thing I’ve ever done. ‘Saturday Night In Alcatraz’ is about Capone era, Alcatraz prison in an alternate universe where it is compulsory to attend disco dancing classes every Saturday night, before prisoners head back to their cells. The last track, ‘Roll Up My Sleaze’, is about the small town attitude I grew up with”

One of Brighton’s most exciting musical talents, songwriter and producer Paul Steel. After his popular record ‘Your loss’ – which came along three years ago with one of the most original videos around – and his two albums April and I and Moon Rock, Paul spent a few years working on several collaborations. He is now back producing his own music, a new project called ‘LL Cosmonaut’ and released an EP just before Christmas which is available at http://llcosmonaut.bandcamp.com.
There are also a couple of the songs available for free download at www.llcosmonaut.com.
Paul will be performing his new songs at the Prince Albert in Brighton on 16 February.
