Richard Durrant – Danza Paraguaya Tour
The Minerva’s round is a good venue for acoustic performances, and a bare-footed Richard Durrant entertained his audience well, breaking up his performance of music by Paraguayan composer/guitarist Augustin Barrios with anecdotes of both his own life and the composer’s. Durrant’s trademark multi-media presentation may serve little artistic purpose, and his use of backing tracks in the second half may have been ill-considered, but there is little hiding his love of the music. He may not be a flawless player, and this was not a flawless performance, but his passion shines through. And passion is what Barrios’ music demands.
