Motorcyclist, 20, dies in crash in Brighton

A 20-year-old motorcyclist died in a crash in Brighton this afternoon (Tuesday 7 February).

His pillion passenger, a woman from Newhaven, also 20, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with serious injuries and remains in a critical condition.

The accident happened in Ditchling Road, by The Level and St Peter’s Church, just before 4pm. The road was closed in both directions, causing gridlock in the area.

The motorcyclist, a Kawasaki rider from Seaford, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sussex Police said: “The motorbike was in collision with a moving bus, resulting in a further collision with some street furniture.”

Sergeant Clare Kenward, from the Roads Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the young man who has sadly died and with the injured woman, who remains in a very serious condition in hospital.”

She urged any witnesses or people who saw the bus or motorbike immediately before the accident to ring 101.
