Portslade is looking up & Sinnott Green has it covered with the opening of their second office
There are exciting times ahead at Sinnott Green. Started back in 1997 by James Sinnott and Andrew Green, they have been operating successfully in Portslade from their Portslade Village office, even through the tough years. In 2007 they were joined by Tom Ennion and he became a partner in the firm in 2008 after only a year. Now, at the start of 2012, the firm has opened a new second office. Positioned at the seafront junction of Boundary Road and with huge windows on two sides, it gives them massive exposure to passing traffic, a statistic running at up to 1,000 cars an hour at peak times.
“With offices in the north and south of Portslade, we now have the area truly covered”
But this move is not just about that exposure, nor is it a decision that has been taken lightly. Andrew Green explains: “We had come to a point where we were recognising an upturn in business and we decided to act on that. Finding the right premises was an important factor in the process so when this prime office became available we jumped on the opportunity. In a sense, with our original office at the northern end of Portslade and our new one at the extreme south, we have the area truly covered.
So what is it that makes Portslade an exciting proposition for a prospective property buyer? Tom Ennion has lots of ideas: “Portslade has plenty to offer buyers. It is still one of the most affordable parts of the city with entry level property as low as £170,000. To clarify, that is a two bedroom Freehold property for £170,000. In fact, the majority of properties that we market are Freehold houses. There are surprisingly few flats in the area. It does mean that Portslade is an ideal move for people who suddenly find, for whatever reason, that Portslade is an attractively affordable move. And there are still bargains to be found, homes that have not been developed or renovated and are ripe for being developed and in a way that suits the buyer’s personal needs and style.”
“In the quarter of Portslade to the south west of Boundary Road there are still lots of opportunities for buyers to stamp their own mark on a home and develop a project that in the long term will offer them personal style and potential profit,” Andrew explains. “But that does not mean that there are no opportunities to find homes that have already been developed to a very high standard. To the east of Boundary Road there are also very attractive larger family homes in lovely yellow London brick and that area is very attractive and commands very attractive prices for both buyers and sellers. To the north, of course, we have Portslade Old Village, the centre of which boasts some fine ancient buildings and pretty cottages, and beyond that an area with more traditional family homes built in the mid-20th century.”
In the last year local MP Mike Weatherly has been beating the drum for his Portslade ward and championing the fact that it is a place in its own right and not simply a suburb of the city. And walking through the centre it is clear to see that it is certainly well provided for. There are excellent local amenities and shops, with lots of smart new eating places and plenty of traditional pubs too. Transport links are excellent with direct rail links through Hove to central London plus excellent Brighton and Hove bus services.
Currently there are plans to develop the seafront with the exciting Port Zed project, which it is hoped will raise the profile of that end of the town and attract a resurgence in interest in the port-side area. Whatever happens, Portslade is certainly confident that it can hold its head high as one of the city’s most attractive opportunities.
And Sinnott Green are poised to help. Tom Ennion will run the new office, but is keen to assure customers old and new that he will be offering the same service that clients have come to expect from Sinnott Green.
“After 15 years the company has an excellent reputation, both locally and across the city,” Tom says. “We believe that service matters above all else, that and continuity. We also offer excellent add-on services for all clients who require them including professional photography and three-dimensional floor plans. Those factors have helped us build a business that benefits from great recommendations and repeat clients. We are very much a local business too, with a strong ethos and green ideals. We work very closely with many local firms, always trying to source products from local traders and support Portslade businesses. We love the fact that Portslade has a good sense of community and local pride. We add to that pride by sponsoring local football team, The Mile Oak Wanderers.”
Andrew Green sums up: “With our new office we are putting brackets around Portslade to the north and south and telling the world that when it comes to this attractive and affordable district, we have it covered.”
