Sense and Sensibility

Maybe this was too big a jump from literary giant to a two-hour play; consequently removing too much from the original text to create a convincing plot? Maybe it was a set that really hadn’t travelled all that well or what appeared to be the endless set changes/stage business between scenes? Whatever the reasons, the trials and tribulations of the Dashwood family in Regency England left me cold. I felt no empathy for or with the characters and though the cast worked hard there was no real pace or energy to the performance. Ultimately a dry, stale piece of theatre.
