Fairtrade Fortnight

Step into Fairness, in celebration of Fairtrade Fortnight 2012, takes place Saturday 3 March 2012, 10am-3pm, Jubilee Square, Brighton.

The day includes a fairtrade and ethical marketplace, live music, food tastings and guest speaker events, with over 30 stands and representation from the Fairtrade Foundation, EcoChic, People Tree, The Fair Shop and Love that Stuff, and Divine Chocolate. Green MP Caroline Lucas will be there as a special guest speaker on the day.

Pinky Badhan, The Co-operative’s Membership Manager for the South East said: “It’s vital that we continue to introduce people to the Fairtrade movement. Whether a vanilla grower in India or a sugar producer in Paraguay, Fairtrade enables people living in some of the world’s poorest countries to escape poverty and empower themselves and their families.

“The Co-operative’s six million customer members have told us that they want a business committed to tackling global poverty, and as 2012 is the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives, this is the ideal opportunity for our members to get mobilised and help make this a fairer world where everyone’s basic human rights are met and respected.”

Step into Fairness is a collaboration between the leading proponents of Fairtrade in Sussex, from the Co-op, to an array of Sussex Fairtrade Businesses and Brighton and Hove City Council. It is opportunity to demonstrate a commitment to Fairtrade by all in Sussex.
