The Brighton Consort: Eternal Paradise

Duruflé’s Requiem, the featured work of the evening, was beautifully sung: powerful, affecting, immersive. The gorgeous Pie Jesu, sung by Heather Cairncross, was extraordinary, and begs the question why the work is not better known. Allegri’s Miserere, undoubtedly the most popular piece on the programme, was performed with a passion and panache that had me blotting a tear or two. The Brighton Consort are to be congratulated for the diversity of their programme and the near flawless execution of the works selected. The Josquin des Prez pieces were new to me and utterly delightful. The glorious venue was the icing on the cake. A wonderful, uplifting evening.
