Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings

Despite her mother’s death a few days previously, Sharon Jones proved what a trouper she was by delivering a hell of a show. With the marvellously-monikered guitarist Binky Griptite acting as MC, the Brooklynites blasted out a set of pure, raw soul that completely blew away the sell out crowd. A dance masterclass included The Pony and Funky Chicken then Sharon demonstrated her gospel side with a testifying sermon and tributes to Amy, Etta and Whitney before duetting with Binky on ‘Mama Don’t Like My Man’. Their unstoppable energy was infectious; a great evening from the world’s funkiest band.
