The Invisible Dot tour
The Invisible Dot Ltd seek out the unusual and acclaimed in comedy, with a sharp eye for unique talent and the next big thing – with their previous associations with the likes of Daniel Kitson, Mark Watson, David O’Doherty and Simon Amstell testimony to the quality they pick out. So it was with great excitement that I saw their tour was hitting Brighton in the newly refurbished The Old Market. The support slots of character comic Nick Mohammad and sketch duo Toby filled the large space with laughter, with Nick’s attention to detail and quick monologues far better than he gave them credit for – no need to announce the end of one character and introduce the next, his very demeanor did that. Toby proved to be a crowd-pleaser with their underlying story of sibling rivalry and clever ideas, although I could have done with hearing them enunciated clearer. Headliner Jonny Sweet was an aggressively charming character –Leslie Philips in his heyday with a contemporary knowing closeted homo-erotic and ironic misogynism twist appealing to some but losing others. He was engaging throughout the hour, amusing and full of the potential The Invisible Dot have such a keen reputation for spotting. The highlight however was Nick Mohammad. His BBC Radio 4 series did not do him justice.
