Veronica Falls

Most critics will forgive any sin if an act can conjure nostalgia for the bands they listened to in their teens and twenties. Take this likeable London four-piece: though unoriginal with some flat, weak vocals, their sound, a musical love-letter to late eighties/early nineties US alternative bands Pavement, The Pixies, The Breeders and Throwing Muses embodied everything great about that era. They blended driving, edgy jingle-jangle guitar with the sweetest bubblegum pop harmonies and could only look more nineties if dressed as the cast of My So-Called Life. Irresistibly, irrepressibly catchy, it was even possible to forgive the most shameless of backward-looking posturing Veronica Falls did so well.
