CDMS Partners – Architects & Interiors on their newly expanded partnership and adding value through design

This week sees the launch of CDMS Partners-Architects and Interior Designers, a Brighton and Hove company which has been locally based for over seven years. CDMS Partners has one of the most interesting and creative portfolios around with a wealth of experience and knowledge in residential, hotel, education, office and urban design projects.

Formerly known as Camillin Denny Architects, Mark Camillin and Liam Denny have expanded their successful partnership with two new directors, Corin Morton and Chris Scarr, to create Camillin Denny Morton Scarr – CDMS Partners Architects and Interior Designers.

The four partners have worked on some very diverse projects over the years, from the restoration of a Grade ll* Listed house in Belgravia; a boutique hotel in the Sahara; the First Base Homeless Day Centre in central Brighton; new flats and a doctor’s surgery in Streatham and a new master plan for Cottesmore St Mary’s Primary Catholic School in Hove.

CDMS has made its reputation in Brighton and Hove by designing beautiful houses, whether new builds; extensions to existing buildings; conservation area and listed building projects or remodelling interiors to make the best of the internal space within a home. CDMS believe that the input of clever and value-added design is becoming more important in this current downturn than ever before.

The most recent projects completed by CDMS Partners have shown that extending and remodelling your house can be the best way of increasing its value. Most houses and flats have the potential for improvement by just updating the kitchen or bathroom or adding an extension.

Chris Scarr from CDMS Partners explains that it helps to look at the bigger picture. “If you are intending to extend your house and refurbish one or two rooms or add a loft extension, combining these improvements into one package of work can help to make the most of your budget and get the best design for the works. The impact created when the works are completed can transform your home, help sell a house or add substantially to its value.”

Recent experience within CDMS Partners has helped to build a strong library of design alternatives for how to achieve the best solution. Corin Morton says: “The way that we use our houses today has changed substantially from 20 or 30 years ago. Space requirements and the relationships between rooms has altered, just as our work and home life has changed. We want open-plan kitchen/dining rooms; large living rooms with larger TV screens or even cinema and games rooms; quiet areas and study areas; children’s rooms or ‘dens’; more en-suite bathrooms and bigger family bathrooms. Outside space is important too and the way our living space relates to the outside. Being able to open up the dining and living area to the garden makes the house feel alive.”

Some recent projects completed by CDMS Partners help to showcase their expertise:

A Remodelled House in Hove
The client for this late Victorian house wanted to achieve a greater connection with the rear garden and more privacy for its corner plot. There was no off street parking and the house was costly to heat and run. CDMS Partners removed the garage from the side of the property and opened the kitchen/dining room up to the rear garden with bifold doors. A new open-plan kitchen was designed with a cleverly concealed utility room and cloakroom. Solar panels and hot water were added to the roof, and the bathrooms were redesigned.

A New House in West Sussex
This house has been designed so that the key rooms in the house are angled towards the stunning views. CDMS Partners decided that the design should be a series of ‘moments’ through the house, from the curved entrance hall revealing the living space with floor to ceiling windows to the master bedroom with a private terrace facing the downs and bathroom looking into the trees.
