Andy Zaltzman: Armchair Revolutionary
Sometimes a heckler can save a gig. Not that Andy Zaltzman was flopping exactly but after he dealt with a weirdly polite walkout the show gained new energy and the quiet audience got more on side paving the way for a far more confident second half that the first. Zaltzman is definitely an acquired taste; tortuous puns and odd semi-skits went hand in hand with some of the sharpest satire around and this sometimes didn’t quite gel. If he jettisoned the gimmicks he could produce something truly excellent, as it is it’s merely very good.
