Call Me Jolene

A miserable, rainy night was greatly improved by an intimate show from this country-flavoured four-piece. Singer Sophie exuded class throughout with her sultry, breathy voice gliding effortlessly through a moody ‘He Knows My Name’ and the dreamy ‘Last Song’. Their response to Dolly’s ‘Jolene’ was as clever and subtle as their ‘Bond song’ was dramatic and sexy. Martin’s bass provided brooding backing for Travis’ and Chris’s inventive drum and guitar flashes as they added soul and jazz to the dark Western backbone of each song. The short set ended excellently with a music box feel on the exquisite ‘Oh Lover’.
