Patrick Watson

When local teenager Caleb Yule caused a viral sensation with his time-lapse video ‘This is Brighton’ at the start of the year, the soundtrack exposed many of the city’s residents to the piano and vocal talents of Quebec musician Patrick Watson. Watson saved his solo version of the song (The Cinematic Orchestra’s ‘To Build a Home’) until last, capping an intimate evening with his band. Highlights included an unplugged ‘Into Giants’ and the percussive collaboration with support The Barr Brothers on encore ‘Sit Down Beside Me’, while even the most melancholic musical moments were bridged by Watson’s good humoured charm.
