Flowers For The Living

Nervously welcoming the small crowd into The Brunswick’s tiny upstairs area, Liverpool-born, Brighton-based acoustic singer-songwriter Rosi Lalor had an understated, honest charm. Presenting modest sixties folk-influenced songs laced with her observations on life, love and London, said songs didn’t sound incredibly original, though this didn’t matter. Lalor’s gently lilting voice and slow-picking approach to her guitar was eminently likeable. With hippy poems and flowers scattered about the place, the set-up flirted with being cringeworthy (though the incongruous Nobby’s Nuts on an amp offset this slightly) but instead successfully evoked a bygone era for an appreciative audience.
