The Great Escape – Treetop Flyers
It was clear from the beards, jackets and hats, as much as the opening chords and CSNY harmonies, that this band felt more at home in Laurel Canyon circa ‘69 than London 2012 – they’re even named after a Stephen Stills song. The sound changed briefly for an Eagles-play-ska number and The Faces sounding ‘Disappearing Kind’, complete with raspy Rod vocals got the front row swaying, but the laidback country rock template returned for the remainder of the set.
Although their sound was pretty much pre-defined, it was a well-executed and enjoyable set but felt like a homage to a bygone era.
