Fatoumata Diawara & Baloji

A truly mesmerizing and powerful performance by two extremely talented musicians. Packed with energy there was an added sense of love to their performance, sending you away feeling inspired and lifted. Crowd participation played a part in both acts seemingly giving you an insight into their culture.
Fatoumata’s voice was stunning and hypnotic, inspired by traditional Wassoulou music of her parents’ native Mali. Fatoumata added jazz and blues to the mix to create a unique sound.

Baloji’s stage-presence was somewhat overwhelming at times but then his subject matter needed to be delivered in a commanding way. The blend of Francophone rap with old style soukous produces a smooth sound that’s pulled together with great backing vocals and the coolest band I’ve ever seen.
