Brighton man suffers serious head injury in car park attack

A 30-year-old Brighton man suffered a serious head injury after being knocked out by a single punch in an attack in a town centre car park.

Three men surrounded the victim in the car park off Oxford Street, Brighton, before one of them punched him in the back of his head.

He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital after the attack which happened just after 10.30pm on Monday (4 June).

Detective Sergeant Steve French, from Brighton and Hove CID, said: “We are investigating why the man was singled out and attacked in this dreadful manner.

“Witnesses have said the victim was surrounded by three men, one of whom delivered the punch before all three ran off towards the London Road.

“Thankfully the victim is now in a stable condition and we are hoping to be able to interview him later this week.

“CCTV from the area is currently being viewed and staff from local businesses interviewed along with forensic examinations of the scene and the victim’s clothing.”

The suspect who was seen punching the victim was described as a stocky white man with dark hair cut short on the sides and longer on top.

He was wearing a grey t-shirt and black knee-length shorts and had a black draw-string bag hanging down his back.
