High winds and signal problems hold up Brighton and Hove commuters

Commuters from Brighton, Hove and Portslade suffered delays coming home from both Victoria Station and London Bridge this evening (Friday 8 June).

A signal failure in the Battersea Park area – just outside Victoria – disrupted journeys and caused delays and cancellations.

Some commuters heading to Victoria on Southern and Gatwick Express trains this morning were affected by the same signalling problem.

Also this evening First Capital Connect passengers were held up on the Thameslink route from stations including Blackfriars and London Bridge.

The problems were caused by a tree falling on to overhead power lines in London in the high winds.

Gusts of more than 50mph battered Brighton and Hove earlier today.
